Epigenetic mechanisms are essential for normal mammalian development and maintenance of gene expression patterns. Additionally, the reversible nature of epigenetic aberrations has led to the emergence of the promising field of epigenetic therapy, and recent FDA approval of epigenetic drugs for cancer treatment.
