The ubiquitous Avro Anson, which soon became commonly and affectionately referred to as "Faithful Annie", first entered service in 1936, and the last machine did not leave the RAF until 1968, nearly a third of a century later. During the war it served with every Commonwealth air force, and many examples were subsequently flown by civil operators.
